Our Horse Trainer
Jeffrey is C&G’s lesson instructor/trainer. Everyone who meets Jeffrey likes him immediately, he just has that kind of personality. Jeffrey was born in Tacoma, WA and at the ripe old age of 6, got his first horse for Christmas. He’s been with horses ever since, whether it’s riding, teaching or training. He spent some time in Fresno, CA training horses and attending shows. Wanting to extend his capacity for learning and going to bigger shows, he jumped at the chance when Jack Thomas, a well-known Arabian horse trainer, asked him to be his assistant. Once again he moved and this time to Hartselle, AL. He worked 5 years for Jack, then moved out on his own. By this time, his lovely wife Tanya and son, Chandler, accompanied him. He spent a total of 9 years in AL training horses, attending horse shows, receiving multiple awards, teaching, developing and improving his many horsemanship talents. Aspiring to help others to do the same, he was very interested in the help wanted ad for C&G. Thanks goodness the rest is history and Jeffrey, Tanya and Chandler took the job. Yes, this type of job is a family affair, as it can be very demanding. We are lucky Tanya also has considerable knowledge about horses and is a huge asset to Jeffrey and C&G Ranch. Chandler keeps us all in good spirits with his “happy go lucky outlook on life.” I think we all wish we had a little more of that kind of attitude in us.
The impressive thing about Jeffrey is his soft treatment of the horses. He treats each horse as an individual with his or her own needs and wants. He figures out these needs and wants and acts accordingly. There were horses in the barn, that for whatever reason, no one could ride. Jeffrey is now riding them with great success. There is no mistreatment, only love, dedication and a huge understanding of the horse. Another success of Jeffrey’s, is his ability to teach students to ride, regardless of age or level of expertise. The best part of his lesson, is not only learning to ride, but he makes it fun. Students leave the arena with a feeling of positive accomplishment and a big smile on their faces. Jeffrey just makes riding “good.” C&G Ranch is extremely lucky and blessed to have the Brown Family be a big part, of the C&G team.
